Mahut Center is closing
at the end of 2013, after nine years of activity. The General Assembly of the
organization made this decision on 6 December 2013, due to the immense
difficulty in raising funds for the issue of women’s rights, a challenge we
faced throughout our years of activity. We are honoured to have contributed our
part to the advancement of older women in employment and to changing the
economic and employment situation and status of women. We are proud for our
contribution and commitment to the following issues: advancing older women in
the employment market; development of essential knowledge on the broad theme of
women, age and employment; advancement of preparedness for dignified retirement;
fighting against gender and age-based discrimination in employment; promoting vocational
training programs, and to solidarity with struggles of marginalized and
discriminated groups in Israeli society.
We wish to thank all
our partners for the support and commitment, which has meant a great deal to us.
We are currently going through the difficult and sad process of closing the
organization which we established and promoted with enthusiasm. However, the
aspiration for an equal and just society does not stop with the closing of
Mahut Center. We believe that you will continue to support women and
marginalized groups in society, and together with them march towards a
dignified life with security and welfare. This journey is the journey and
responsibility of all of us.

Mahut center is a feminist organization committed to the advancement of the economic-employment situation of women aged 45 and older. We promote values of justice in the employment market, encourage an approach of equal opportunities and freedom from discrimination and other barriers based on age, gender and background, alongside providing an opportunity for dignified and sustainable living for the different groups comprising Israeli society. Mahut center's activity combines the promotion of policy with fieldwork: programs for social change in employment; preparation for retirement and increasing economic security after retirement; raising awareness of the importance and advantages of employment in older ages; fighting ageism; development of vocational training programs aimed at facilitating development in employment; preparedness of the employment market to the rise in life expectancy, and assistance programs for low-income women focusing on empowerment, training and placement. Mahut Center has unique and essential knowledge on the issues of age, gender and employment.
